Te Ika A Maui

Here is a copy of the summary of another legend that we have read.  We wrote it together yesterday.
Have a read.
Did we cover all the parts from the plan?
Have we done a good job? Why or why not?

The Fish of Maui

This is a story about Maui and how he fished up a land.
He had to hide in the waka because his brothers didn't want him to go fishing.
After his brothers had paddled out Maui popped out from his hiding spot and made them paddle further out into the ocean.
He had to use his own blood for bait on his magic jawbone hook.
The hook caught a huge creature and Maui had to fight hard to pull it up.
It was so big that he had to walk to find his hook.
While he was gone his brothers cut up the fish and this is how the North Island of New Zealand was made.

Writing a Summary

Here is a copy of a document I found on a web site which shows the hand plan and gives some good examples of what the sentences in your summary might sound like.

Chilli Challenge 31/05/16

Tuesday 31st May
Tuesday 7th June (The thinking continues)

Using  four 4s and any operation, how many different answers can you make. Can you make every number between 1 and 20?
(Apparently it is possible to make all numbers between 1 and 100!)

Five numbers added together make an odd number. What can you find out about the numbers?
Try lots of combinations to test your thinking so you will have evidence to back up what you think you have found out about the numbers.
Is there a way to be able to tell whether the answer will be odd or even?

The difference between two numbers is 5. What might the two numbers be?
Find as many as you can.

Remember to show all your thinking and give some explanation when you post your work as well.

Summary Writing

Here is a fun video about the basic idea of how to write a summary of something that you have read.
Being able to summarise is a great way to show that you really understand something that you have read.

Choose five numbers from the list below that add up to 75.
7    9    11    13    15    17    19    21    23

What are some other solutions?

What number am I?
I am between 50 and 75
I am even.
When you add my digits, the answer is even.
I can be divided by five.

Winton's dad washes all his teams soccer jerseys and hangs them on the line.
If you add up all their numbers, what will the answer be?

Remember to show all your thinking and give some explanation when you post your work as well.
